Funded by the Connecting Washington transportation package, PACE is contributing to a project aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving mobility along I-5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). The project involves rebuilding the Steilacoom-DuPont Road (Exit 119) interchange, extending I-5 high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes to Mounts Road, and widening I-5 to four lanes in each direction, with auxiliary lanes between Center Drive and Steilacoom-DuPont Road. The interchange will include a grade separation over the Sound Transit railroad, maintain access to the JBLM DuPont Gate, and add a shared-use path for non-motorized connectivity.
Key features include a Steilacoom-DuPont Road and Wilmington Drive roundabout, lowering Pendleton Avenue under I-5 within the JBLM perimeter, landscape restoration at the Memorial Arboretum, a new historical marker, and two noise walls. PACE provides stormwater engineering services, including enhanced runoff treatment, flow control, conveyance, infiltration, and inspection of existing stormwater systems. PACE also provides utility design and coordination for the project. During construction, PACE is managing temporary erosion and sediment control and drainage.
