About Us

Our History

PACE began in 1992 when Marty Penhallegon realized his dream of building one of the most successful civil engineering firms in the Pacific Northwest. He and an experienced group of professionals founded PACE with a shared vision of supporting community infrastructure and developing communities in a comprehensive and sustainable manner. We have expanded our expertise over the years to build a multidisciplinary team that can offer our clients a complete package of civil and structural engineering, planning, surveying, and GIS services. Our business practices and project solutions embrace the efficiencies and innovation afforded by current and emerging technology and engineering trends. Today we are an employee-owned company with offices in Kirkland, Everett, and Wenatchee, WA, and Lake Oswego, OR.

We are industry leaders. Over the past 25-plus years, PACE has adapted to the evolving A/E/C industry. We carefully acknowledge industry trends and use the experience of our talented employees, our ongoing and long-lasting client relationships, and our in-depth knowledge of the industry to position PACE at the top. Our ability to be an industry leader stems from our company culture, which is centered on five primary commitments: customers, employees, industry, community, and environment.

Our Culture

When our employees are asked what it’s like to work at PACE, we often hear how much they enjoy the fun and caring work environment. No two days are alike. Every department is busy, and there’s plenty of variety to go around. Our workload makes it possible to work on different teams, so we all get the benefit of a wide variety of experience, skills, and viewpoints. Our culture blends values from the past and present while infusing technology and our vision for the future. We believe that listening is a great way to start a conversation and embrace fun and a little humor.

PACE’s core values shape the culture of our firm and are essential to sustain the success of all our offices as enjoyable and meaningful workplaces, where all employees are empowered to meet professional and personal goals and embrace social responsibility.

These are the core values that PACE lives by:

  • Performance: Recognize valuable employee contributions.
  • Professionalism: Conduct business professionally and ethically.
  • Communication: Communicate in an open and honest manner.
  • Community: Give to the communities where we work and live.
  • Sustainability: Be responsible stewards of our environment and communities.

Our Sustainability Practices

PACE is committed to reducing our firm’s impact on the environment. We have implemented a variety of company-wide sustainable business practices that have received accolades in the community, including the “King County 2012 Best Workplaces for Waste Prevention and Recycling” and “Sustainable Eastside Green Business Challenge Participant.” We understand the importance of encouraging responsible stewardship of the environment, not only to our employees but also to the community.

The following are some of PACE’s sustainable practices:

  1. Sustainability committee (Green Team)
  2. Vehicle purchasing policy
  3. Composting and waste reduction programs
  4. Energy/utility conservation
  5. Electronics recycling
