GIS Day: Bear Creek Elementary SchoolOn November 18th, the PACE GIS team participated in GIS Day by attending Bear Creek Elementary School in Woodinville to show off GIS and how it’s used in the daily lives of the students. A one-hour GIS presentation was given to three classrooms, one 5th grade and two 4th grade, showing how GIS works and what it can tell us about the world around us. The children were very excited to see GIS in action as PACE showed them functions ranging from viewing their house on an aerial, 3D rendering, and a routing utility displaying how long firemen would take to get from theirfire station to a fire located in downtown Woodinville. They were also able to view the water pipes in GIS relating to their location around the school. The children also participated in non-computer activities involving map reading. They loved having this time to learn about GIS. Positive feedback was in the air, especially when one student said after the presentation “GIS is cool ! ”.
Day of Caring: El Centro de la Raza On September 11, 2009 PACE Engineers, along with over 8,900 other volunteers, participated in the United Way of King Counties Day of Caring. A team from PACE along with Mortenson Construction, Engineers Without Borders and Architects Without Borders spent the day demolishing an old, unsafe stair well at El Centro de la Raza. Mortenson Construction then rebuilt the stair well pro-bono for El Centro.
15th Annual Golf Tournament a Huge Success! The 15th annual PACE golf tournament was held on August 22 at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Washington. The day was a huge success, we had our largest turnout ever with 92 players. With such outstanding support and participation we raised over $7,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. We couldn't have done it without everyone that participated and donated. Thank you so much!
